Recently, Aussie Tool Boxes completed this custom Land Cruiser ute canopy on this Toyota Land Cruiser tray back. The canopy is built using 2mm checker plate aluminium construction and has a profile to follow the same lines as the head board of the tray. The canopy has a sheet floor to protect the steel tray from objects moving around during travel, and of course keep the canopy water tight.

Hello David,

I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the canopy you made for me.

I have just completed a 10,000km 6 week trip through N.S.W. up to Lawn Hill N.P. in QLD, along the Savannah Way into Northern Territory, through Limmen N.P., Kakadu N.P., Litchfield N.P., Douglas Hot Springs, back down to South Australia and into the Painted Desert, down the Oodnadatta Track, into Arkaroola and Chambers Gorge, down to Wilpena then back to Melbourne.

Whilst the majority of this trip was on bitumen I did also travel many kilometres on dirt/gravel/rocky and sometimes badly corrugated roads. I did also travel along some Four Wheel Drive tracks which were fairly challenging.

During the course of this trip I gave the canopy what I would call, a very tough ‘work out’.

I am extremely happy with the canopy and cannot fault it!

Internally the canopy has been divided utilising security mesh screen and a shelf for smaller items to the front. This mesh gives you a multitude of options when it comes to securing loose items while traveling. The customer has also fitted a fridge slide to carry his Engel fridge.

The doors on this canopy have been fitted with three-point, swing handle style locks that utilise rods to each end of the door and a tongue in the centre for good security. Gas struts to all doors make for ease of use, and the use of stainless steel piano hinge with stainless steel rivets make sure that corrugations should never lead to any issues with hinges coming loose in the long term.
